How to get your Suppliers to give you GREAT prices.
When deciding on what ingredients you are going to purchase from your suppliers the number 1 key is to look for companies that will give you value!
But value doesn’t come over night. Value is created via a good supplier/customer relationship. So how do you build this? We recommend the tendering process. Put ALL of your ingredients out to the market, give the suppliers 1 chance and their best price, then collate the results and decide accordingly who you are going to purchase what off!
If a Supplier can see that they can stand to gain an increase in orders they will be more willing to win over your business and look after you ALL THE TIME! In turn you must be loyal to them for the tender period. They have given you their best price on the understanding that they will supply certain products for a set period of time.
“Tender Etiquette” dictates that once prices are returned by the supplier you DO NOT use them to play off against other suppliers to further better the price. This “bastardizes” (excuse my French) the process and WILL NOT build a valuable relationship between you and your suppliers going forward. And you know who’s going to lose out of that – YOU!
